This past weekend the world watched only the 3rd Black Quarterback ever to lead his team to win the Superbowl. Which is undoubtedly excellence at the highest level, but what it took for him to get there, better yet, who it took cannot be understated.
Jalen Hurts, the 26 year old quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles etched his name in history as the 3rd Black quarterback to ever win the Superbowl. Before him are only Doug Williams with the Washington Redskins in 1987, and Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020, 2023, and 2024. Hurts alone made history on the field as well as off the field with his 2024-25 campaign. He is unique among professional athletes with an all-women management team.
An all-women management team, 3 of whom are black are a rarity in the NFL, and the broader sports world, which has been historically a male dominated field – his agent, manager, and marketing and communications representatives. All the women are from the Klutch Sports Group agency. Nicole Lynn, his primary agent, was promoted to president of the company’s football division in 2023, as reported by Sports Business Journal. Lynn is joined by Chantal Romain, Shakeemah Simmons-Winter, Jenna Malphrus and Rachel Everett, who round out Hurts’ management team.
When asked about his team Hurts states “It’s something that happened organically. I was seeking out the best, and that’s how it happened,” said Hurts, adding: “And honestly, for me, it’s an eye that I don’t have that I’m able to lean on in certain situations. That’s something I value heavily.” In 2023, Lynn negotiated a record-breaking contract for Hurts: His five-year contract extension with the Eagles, worth $255 million, was the largest contract by average annual value in NFL history at the time. The deal was generally well-received by analysts, particularly after Hurts led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance that year.
We get to see the bright lights and festivities that surround big moments like the Super Bowl but there are always key figures behind the scenes that make everything possible who rarely receive recognition. So we at Hunt Street would love to congratulate Hurts and the Eagles on their victory, as well as Nicole Lynn, Chantal Romain, Shakeemah Simmons-Winter, Jenna Malphrus and Rachel Everett for their hard work paving a new road for many who will come after them, and opening our eyes to some real hustlers.
