May is Mental Health Awareness Month so in this month’s blog post we would like to highlight one of the ways we are making an effort to support Mental Health in our space. We live in a city where people are more accustomed with hard times than easy. A saying that we have coined and even celebrated is “Detroit Hustles Harder”, because we do. We work hard for our communities and city, because this is a place full of people who care. We pride ourselves on our ability to grind, but what do we do when it is time to slow down? How are we being mindful of the impact our work does to our health, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. This is something that is important to us at Hunt Street Station, because we could work as hard as we want to build a city we love, but if we aren’t able to enjoy it, what is the point? Which is why we were very excited to hear that our members Uplift Family Services were interested in hosting a Monthly Support Group for any one who may be dealing with matters of trauma and mental health. Trauma is pervasive in our city and world, so we want to make sure there are resources for people to deal with these things in a healthy and wholesome way. Uplift Family Services is doing this is many ways. Whether it be partnering with struggling mothers, or supporting our youth and most vulnerable, they have proven countless time through their mission, that they care. Not just that they care, that they are willing to be on the front lines doing the work to show it.
