Hunt Street Station Holiday Recap

The last few months have been a whirlwind as we were working to get everything together for our 2nd Annual Christkindl Holiday Market. We wanted to thank every person who supported us in any way! We are happy to share that this year’s market was a success working alongside our vendors, sharing the experience of an authentic german holiday market in Detroit, and seeing Sina’s hard work come to life.
As we are all in holiday mode and steadily heading into another winter, we want to put an emphasis on efforts being made to help out those in need. For those that are unaware, we are currently running our 5th Annual Hunt Street Station Giving Tree. For context, over the last few years we have been able to help families living in our McDougall-Hunt Neighborhood celebrate Christmas the way every family deserves to – warmly and fully. We partner with the Bailey Park Project and McDougall-Hunt Neighborhood Association to complete our fundraising goals. We’re currently a little bit more than halfway through our goal, so if you would like to donate, you can do so here. We appreciate any and all help towards meeting our goal this year!!
We also want to bring awareness to a few other organizations that are helping those in need:
- Cass Community Social Services is a Detroit-based agency with a person-centered philosophy, dedicated to providing food, housing, health services, and job programs to those local to Detroit.
- City of Detroit Warming Centers are now open from now through March 31. They are intended to provide temporary relief to persons who are displaced when year-round shelters may be at capacity. There are currently 3 locations currently in place and more details can be found here.
- ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services) has been serving the community for 50 years. Founded by a group of dedicated volunteers in 1971 out of a storefront in Dearborn’s impoverished south end, ACCESS was created to assist the Arab immigrant population adapt to life in the United States. You can learn more here and if you would like to donate, you can do so here.
- Detroit Phoenix Center provides critical resources, wrap around support, and a safe, nurturing environment to youth who are transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
Lastly, we want to wish everyone a happy holidays and we look forward to what 2023 has in store for all of us!
